Olive Wood Pendants
Master carvers find their inspiration in the tranquility of the Umbrian countryside just outside of Assisi, Italy. This region is called the 'Green Heart' of Italy and is known as 'Terra dei Santi' (Land of the Saints).
Here, in their studios, the artists create pendants and crosses including the famous 'TAU' of Saint Francis, from the olive wood that is so abundant in this part of the world.
'It seems singularly appropriate to carve from the olive wood,' says a local artist.
